Tracking physiotherapy treatment progress
1 min read
A physiotherapy episode of care is an assessment, a plan, a set number of sessions, and a goal. If the sessions are recorded as loose notes, the trend is invisible and the discharge decision is a judgement call with no supporting picture.
Assess once, properly
A structured initial and functional assessment sets the baseline — range, strength, pain, function. Everything after is measured against it.
Book the course, not one visit at a time
Setting the course up as a defined number of sittings means each session is a documented step in a plan, each is billed as it is delivered, and the remaining sessions are visible.
Record the same things every session
Pain score, key measurements, what was done, and the home programme given. Consistency is what makes the trend readable.
Close the loop with the referrer
When physiotherapy sits on the same record as the orthopedic or PM&R referral, the referrer sees the progress without a separate report — and the discharge summary writes itself from the session history.
